The
Guardiola del Tempio is situated in one of the most
enchanting corners of the city of Perugia, near the
Tempio di San Michele Arcangelo ( 4th – 5th
century ) and the panoramic tower of the Cassero di
Porta Sant’Angelo. In medieval times it was a resting
place for the guards watching over the city gate. In
recent centuries it has been part of the convent
belonging to an enclosed order of nuns. The most ancient
wing has been used in a variety of ways from barn to
wash-house, conserving in tact its great barrel-vaulted
ceiling. The present owners have preserved the
historic-artistic value of the structure, paying
meticulous attention to every detail. The Sperandio
barrel vault holds one window which was probably used by
the guards in ancient times, while another window which
looks out on the garden belonging to the enclosed nuns.
Everything is permeated with a mystical aura, giving
peace and serenity to all its guests. The spacious
apartment, which sleep three people ( plus one ), is
about fifty square metres and is fully equipped with all
comforts: central heating, a kitchen with cooker, an
oven, a fridge, a television and a large bathroom with
shower.
